This weekend’s anticipated Aviano-Naples collision was billed as a showdown between the last two unbeaten girls basketball teams in Division II, not to mention the latest installment in a longstanding Italian rivalry.

The teams easily lived up to those lofty expectations Friday.

Daria Andrews hit a game-tying three-pointer and Shanice Alexander made a free throw with five seconds left in the game to complete Naples’ comeback from a six-point, final-minute deficit and earn the Wildcats a 47-46 victory.

The decisive final point was one of 20 on the night for Alexander, who added a game-high 14 rebounds. Jasmyn Green matched Alexander’s 20 points for Aviano.

Naples won under less stressful circumstances in a 45-23 victory Saturday.

Alexander scored another 17, this time adding six steals.

At 8-0, the Wildcats are now the only unbeaten girls team in Italy and Division II overall. Their next games aren’t until Feb. 7-8, when they’ll close out the regular season at home against American Overseas School of Rome.

Aviano is on a similar schedule; the Saints, now 6-2, will host Vicenza on Feb. 7-8 to wrap up the regular season.

Wiesbaden 35, Ramstein 33: At Ramstein, the visiting Warriors headed home with a key Division I win after the Royals faltered down the stretch.

Ramstein took a six-point lead into the final quarter, but a 13-5 Wiesbaden run over the final eight minutes was enough to inch the Warriors ahead and hand the Royals their second loss of the season.

The Warriors remain the only undefeated team in Division I.

Wiesbaden’s Crisheena Rolack scored the bulk of her game-high 17 points on a barrage of five three-pointers. Sofia Dinges notched a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double for the Royals.

The teams are booked for a rematch at Wiesbaden on Feb. 1.

Wiesbaden 53, Bitburg 17: At Wiesbaden, the Warriors tuned up with a rout of the Division II Barons.

Cierra Martin posted a heavy stat line of 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals to fuel the Warriors.

Saoirse Matthews had 14 points, seven rebounds and four blocks for Bitburg.

Patch 42/46, Hohenfels 28/23: At Hohenfels, the Division I Panthers pounced on the Division II Tigers.

Rebecca Hess scored game-high totals of 11 and 14 points, respectively, as Patch cruised to consecutive double-digit wins. Shelby Atkinson scored 10 points in each game for Hohenfels.

The Panthers needed a 14-5 fourth-quarter spurt to put away the Tigers on Friday. They took the opposite approach Saturday, building a quick 19-4 lead through eight minutes.

Patch is off next weekend and has just four more games before the European tournament. Hohenfels happily returns to the Division II ranks with visits from Ansbach and Schweinfurt/Bamberg next weekend.

Brussels 21/31, Menwith Hill 9/5: At Menwith Hill, the reigning Division III European champions reiterated that status with blowouts of a divisional hopeful.

Ali DeFazio scored 36 points on the weekend and Teodora Vasileva collected a combined 23 rebounds to carry the Brigands.

Lakenheath 55/40, AFNORTH 31/37: At Brunssum, Netherlands, the Division II Lions threw a scare into the Division I Lancers.

After coasting to a lopsided win Friday, Lakenheath encountered a lot more resistance in Saturday’s rematch. AFNORTH built a 21-14 halftime lead, only to see it disintegrate as the Lancers outscored their host 16-5 in the third quarter.

Lakenheath’s Jourdan Hodge (13 points, 14 rebounds) and Kayla Langster (10 points, 15 rebounds) produced double-doubles in Friday’s rout. Lancer guard Kristen Reed led all scorers with 20 on Saturday.

Rachel Pagio contributed a combined 19 points and 19 rebounds to the AFNORTH cause.

Vicenza 31/20, Sigonella 30/34: At Vicenza, the Cougars and Jaguars played to a weekend standstill.

The teams played evenly for seven quarters of the weekend. The Division II home team eked out a one-point win Friday after entering halftime tied at 12, and held a three-point lead entering Saturday’s fourth quarter. But the Division III Jaguars outscored the Cougars 19-5 over the weekend’s final eight minutes to earn a split.

Sigonella’s Katie Cauble and Kisiah Chandler and Vicenza’s Emma Knapp each scored 10 points Friday. Sigonella’s Sydney Moore totaled seven points, 12 rebounds and four assists on Saturday.

SHAPE 30/52, Alconbury 25/29: At Alconbury, star guard Gina Rhett pointed the way to a Spartan sweep.

Rhett scored 16 points Friday and 20 on Saturday, both game-high totals, as SHAPE handled its Division II rival.

Leila Hall led Alconbury with 23 combined points on the weekend and a 10-rebound effort Saturday.

After a relatively light early schedule, things pick up for the Spartans over the season’s final weeks. The slate includes games against Division III power Brussels, Division I program Lakenheath and fierce Division II rival AFNORTH.

Black Forest Academy 47/42, Baumholder 8/3: At Kandern, Germany, the Falcons routed the overmatched Bucs.

Emily Campbell scored 10 points Friday and Emma Clarke scored a combined 15 on the weekend to lead the BFA attack.
