WIESBADEN, Germany — Three Defense Department schools students will spend part of their summer break participating in the Research Science Institute Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Juniors Tristan Fitch from Brussels American High School, Belgium, Yukino Nagai from Kadena High School in Okinawa, Japan, and Kevin Burdge from Heidelberg High School, Germany, will represent the Department of Defense Education Activity at the six-week program in Cambridge, Mass.

The RSI program brings 80 high school students from around the world to MIT for a six-week, cost-free program designed to provide a solid leadership base for careers in science, mathematics, engineering and technology, according to a DODEA news release.

Students will join academic, corporate and government-sponsored research teams in ongoing projects and experience the research cycle from draft to finish, according to the Center for Excellence in Education’s Web site. They will also deliver conference-style oral and written reports on their findings.

The program runs from June 20 to July 31.
