CAMP RED CLOUD, South Korea — A memorial service will be held Tuesday for a 2nd Infantry Division soldier who was found dead in his barracks on Oct. 13, officials said.

A news release issued by 2nd ID on Friday identified the soldier as Pvt. 2nd Class Santos L. Sarmientodiaz of Los Angeles.

The service will be held at Memorial Chapel on Camp Casey, in Dongduchon, at 12:30 p.m.

Sarmientodiaz was assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment at Camp Casey, officials said.

The cause of death remains unknown and will not be released until completion of an autopsy and investigation by the 2nd Infantry Division Military Police and the Army’s Criminal Investigation Command (CID).

According to the release, Sarmientodiaz is survived by his parents, Michael and Norma Sarmientodiaz, also of Los Angeles.

His awards included the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon, the release said. Officials did not reveal his age.
