CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — A memorial service is scheduled to be held Wednesday for a sailor found dead on Camp Hansen early Friday.

The service for Seaman Adam J. Palecco, 21, a dental technician assigned to the 3rd Force Service Support Group, was to be at 2 p.m. at the West Chapel on Camp Hansen, according to Marine Corps Consolidated Public Affairs.

Palecco was the son of Bonnie and Raymond Palecco of Hackettstown, N.J. The sailor was found at 12:12 a.m. Friday on Camp Hansen, according to a Marine spokeswoman. He was pronounced dead at 1:29 a.m. by a medical examiner at the U.S. Naval Hospital on Camp Lester.

Marines and Naval Criminal Investigative Service investigators would not say whether possible homicide or suicide was part of the investigation. Marine officials would say publicly only that NCIS “continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.”

NCIS is asking anyone with information concerning the case to call its tip line at DSN 645-0779 or e-mail oki-posse@NCIS.navy. mil. The agency guarantees informants’ anonymity.

“As a matter of long-standing policy, we cannot speculate about the substance or details of the investigation,” Marine Staff Sgt. Suki Forbes said in a news release issued Tuesday afternoon. Marines would not say where on the installation Palecco’s body was found or its condition when discovered.
