Hundreds of visitors attended the Memorial Day ceremony on a pleasant, mostly sunny day at the Normandy American Cemetery, Sunday, May 24, 2015.

Patrick Thomines, the mayor of Colleville-sur-Mer, Jean Charbonniaud, prefect of Lower Normandy region, and U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Randy A. Kee, Director of Strategy and Policy at U.S. European Command, all spoke during the ceremony.

Among those in attendance was George Shenkle, 93, a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and veteran of D-day, Operation Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded in the Ardennes.
