NAPLES, Italy — A memorial service will be held Friday for Capt. David M. Smith, executive officer for Naval Facilities Engineering Command in Naples, a Navy spokeswoman said.

The service will be held at 3 p.m. at the chapel on U.S. Navy support site base in Gricignano. A reception will follow at the community center.

In lieu of flowers, donations to help offset funeral costs can be made at Capodichino Community Bank to the Capt. David M. Smith memorial fund, Rt# 051005504 Acct# 3700133355.

Smith had a passion for music and used to call himself the “professor of knowledge from the Rock n’ Roll college,” some coworkers said.

Smith is survived by his wife and three children.
