STUTTGART, Germany — Marvel Comics has released "The Promise," the eighth free comic available at Army and Air Force Exchange Service stores since 2005.

The comic, available at base exchanges and post exchanges worldwide, features Captain America, sidekick Bucky, the Human Torch, Sub Mariner and Miss America.

The comic’s story spans from occupied France during World War II to the front lines of Afghanistan.

The project started as a way to provide "a taste of home and a bit of escapism to troops serving overseas," AAFES officials said. But the series has also become very popular among collectors and troops’ family members.
