CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — A member of the III Marine Expeditionary Force Band was pronounced dead at the U.S. Naval Hospital here Saturday.

Sgt. Zachery Jasper, 21, of Hobart, Ind., was discovered unconscious in his barracks room at Camp Foster, according to a Marine Corps Bases Japan news release.

He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:21 a.m., according to the release.

The cause of death is under investigation.

Jasper, a percussionist, joined the Marine Corps in June 2006 and began his tour on Okinawa in May 2007, the release said.

“Sgt. Jasper’s death is tragic, and an unfortunate loss to the III MEF Band and our Corps,” Col. Dewey G. Jordan, III MEF Headquarters Group commanding officer, was quoted as saying in the release.
