YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — A laptop was reported stolen from a home on Yokota’s east side Tuesday afternoon, base officials said Thursday.
Authorities said the lack of forced entry resembles a string of thefts that took place late last October, when six homes with unlocked doors were burglarized in a week.
"Security Forces does not believe this incident is related to the thefts that occurred in the east side housing area in [October] at this point," base spokeswoman Lt. Tania Bryan said. "We are currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine any connection to the thefts from last fall."
Tuesday’s theft took place sometime between 1 and 2:30 p.m., she said, adding that it’s the only theft reported recently.
The six thefts last October took place between midnight and sunrise as residents slept. No arrests have been made in connection to any of those thefts, Bryan said.
Security Forces are recommending that residents lock doors and windows before leaving home or going to bed and keep porch lights on at night, she said.
