KITZINGEN, Germany — Members of the Kitzingen Army community will gather at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Harvey Barracks chapel to remember a soldier killed in action in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Shane Koele, 25, of the 212th Military Police Company, died March 16 of injuries he sustained a day earlier when his armored Humvee hit a land mine near Shindand. His unit was only one week into a yearlong tour in Afghanistan.

Koele, of Hartley, Iowa, also served six months in Iraq in 2003.
