KADENA AIR BASE, Okinawa — On June 24, Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Remington will hand the keys to Kadena Air Base to Col. Jan-Marc Jouas, who has been selected for brigadier general.
The change of command ceremony is to be at 8 a.m. inside the 961st Airborne Air Control Squadron hangar.
Remington, a 1977 Air Force Academy graduate, has commanded the 18th Wing since April 2002. He moves from Okinawa to become deputy director of politico-military affairs for Asia-Pacific and the Middle East on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon.
His replacement, Jouas, is a 1979 graduate of the academy and a command pilot with more than 2,700 hours in the F-4 and F-16 aircraft. According to an official Air Force Web site, he has flown more than 80 combat missions during Operations Desert Storm, Provide Comfort, Northern and Southern Watch in Iraq and Operation Allied Force over Kosovo.
Jouas currently commands the 354th Fighter Wing at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. He has served as an instructor pilot, weapons officer, flight commander, squadron commander and operations group commander. His staff assignments have included Joint Staff Division chief and special assistant to the chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Remington, who has logged more than 4,000 flight hours, flew F-16s in Europe, including a stint as an F-16 demonstration pilot. His assignments have included serving as a solo pilot with the Air Force Thunderbirds; commander of the 80th Fighter Squadron at Kunsan Air Base, South Korea; commander of the 366th Operations Group, Mountain Home AFB, Idaho; and commander of the 27th Fighter Wing at Cannon AFB, New Mexico.
Staff assignments included U.S. Air Forces Europe, Headquarters Air Combat Command and the Joint Staff at the Pentagon.
