A Holocaust observance presentation will be held Tuesday at Naval Support Activity Bahrain.

The base will be the only one in Europe or Southwest Asia to commemorate Yom Hashoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day, officials said.

In 1980, Congress set the period from the Sunday before Yom Hashoah to the following Sunday to observe the persecution and genocide that led to the deaths of 6 million Jews and many others.

The Navy circulated a message calling for observances to honor this year’s theme: "Never again: What you do matters."

Bahrain’s events, sponsored by the base’s multicultural association, will begin at 8 a.m. on the first floor of the base’s Freedom Souq near the Navy Federal Credit Union. The daylong observance will feature documents, studies and interpretations of Holocaust history, a Navy official said.
