HEIDELBERG, Germany — One of two pharmacies for Heidelberg’s soldiers and families is shutting down, but the other one will expand its hours and open up on Saturdays.

The small pharmacy at the shopping center will close permanently on May 30 because few people use it, said Col. Kyle D. Campbell, commander of the Heidelberg Medical Department Activity, or MEDDAC.

The main pharmacy, in the health center on Nachrichten Kaserne — about a 10 minute drive from the shopping center — will extend its hours starting June 1. The hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

"By moving the staff to the health center we will be able to extend hours and continue to improve our service to our community," Campbell said in a press release.

The pharmacy staff is also encouraging patients to call in their refills on the automated refill line. That number is 00800-7446-2500.
