HEIDELBERG, Germany — Command Sgt. Maj. Michael L. Gravens will take over as U.S. Army, Europe and 7th Army Command Sgt. Major, Army officials announced this week.
Gravens will replace Command Sgt. Maj. David Lady in June as Europe’s top enlisted soldier.
Gravens, a Crawfordsville, Ind. native, comes to USAREUR after serving as III Corps Sergeant Major in Fort Hood, Texas since April 2002.
He entered the military in 1971, and has served in many positions, including tank commander, scout section sergeant, drill sergeant, senior tank weapons instructor, cavalry platoon sergeant, platoon leader, and first sergeant.
With nearly nine years of continuous duty as a command sergeant major, he has served as a tank battalion command sergeant major, base support battalion command sergeant major, brigade command sergeant major for a stand-alone brigade combat team, and division command sergeant major.
His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and numerous service ribbons.
