The Chief of Naval Operations, Adm. Vern Clark, announced the following flag officer assignments Friday:

Rear Adm. David A. Gove is being assigned as deputy chief of naval personnel/commander, Navy Personnel Command, Millington, Tenn. Gove is currently commander of Submarine Group Seven in Yokosuka, Japan.

Rear Adm. James D. Kelly is being assigned as commander, U.S. Naval Forces, Japan/commander, Naval Component, U.S. Forces, Japan, in Yokosuka, Japan. Kelly is currently commander of Carrier Strike Group Five, Yokosuka, Japan.

Rear Adm. (lower half) John M. Bird is being assigned as commander, Submarine Group Seven in Yokosuka, Japan. Bird is currently director for operations, plans, logistics and engineering, J3/4, U.S. Joint Forces Command at Norfolk, Va.
