KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — A 3-month-old child died Monday in Mannheim after being found unresponsive by the child’s caregiver, according to an Army news release.

The child was not identified, but the release said the child’s parents were Mannheim-based soldiers.

U.S. Army Garrison Mannheim personnel responded to the scene and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until German medical personnel arrived. Efforts to resuscitate the child failed, the release stated.

No foul play is suspected. The death is being investigated, according to the release.

BAMBERG, Germany — A memorial service will be held Wednesday for a Bamberg-based military policeman who was killed in a traffic accident last week.

The memorial for Sgt. John Shepherd Jr., 30, will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Warner Barracks chapel.

Shepherd, a member of the 630th Military Police Company, died Thursday in a traffic accident on Autobahn 70 near Gochsheim, Germany, according to an 18th Military Police Brigade press release.

Shepherd was driving a car he had recently purchased at the time of the accident, but officials would not release further details of the crash because it is under investigation, said brigade spokeswoman Cpl. Adrienne Killingsworth.

Shepherd is survived by his wife, Alexandra, son, Brian, 5, mother, Kelley Parrett, and father, John Shepherd Sr.
