KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — Army recruiters in the Kaiserslautern military community are ready to help Air Force and Navy members enlist in the Army under a new program designed to boost the service’s ranks.

The Army has 30,000 billets to fill in the next two years and hopes to entice sailors and airmen to switch uniforms. At the same time, the Air Force and Navy are moving to downsize their forces.

The Army’s Operation Blue to Green program is meant to fill its quota with eligible servicemembers in grades of E-1 to E-5. The Army is looking in particular for enlisted personnel whose Air Force Specialty Code or Navy rate convert directly to an Army Military Occupational Specialty, Army officials said.

Cheerleading camp planned

Kaiserslautern High School in Germany will hold a cheerleading camp over the Labor Day weekend for high school cheerleaders across Europe.

The camp is being run by the Universal Cheer Association, the largest cheerleading camp and competition company in the world, conducting more than 1,100 sessions of camp each summer, according to a news release about the event.

“Participants are taught several cheers, sideline chants, dances, partner stunts and safety techniques,” said camp coordinator Jane Varalli. “Students leave with better skills, better techniques. They also learn about teamwork and how an individual contributes to the success of a team.”

The camp is open to all students in grades 9-12. The cost is $95 and is payable at the door.
