WüRZBURG, Germany — Members of the 1st Infantry Division’s 101st Military Intelligence Battalion will gather at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Leighton Barracks theater to memorialize a soldier who died last month, just weeks after her unit returned from Iraq.

Sgt. 1st Class Sarah Windley, 51, of Fayetteville, N.C., died March 10 from complications during elective surgery, according to a 1st ID news release. A member of the 101st MI’s headquarters company, she had been the food-service manager for the Leighton Barracks dining facility in Würzburg.

The memorial service, and the announcement of Windley’s death, were delayed because of her unit’s post-deployment block leave.
