SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany — A new $10 million combined club complete with bars, restaurants and a slot-machine room opened Friday night.

Airmen packed Club Eifel for the opening celebration, feasting on prime rib in the banquet room and throwing back beers in the officers’ and enlisted clubs at each end of the 44,000 square-foot building.

The officers’ club resembles an upscale European bar, with pin lighting and a backlit bar. The larger enlisted club is more like a well-lit sports bar with children playing video games in the corner. The enlisted club, called J.R. Rocker’s, is meant to be an “eatertainery” with food and fun for families, said Robyn Sleeth, deputy service coordinator for the club.

The money used to build Club Eifel came from nonappropriated funds under the NAF Major Construction Program, Sleeth said.

Kaiserslautern community meetings scheduled

The Kaiserslautern, Germany, military community’s leaders will discuss topics including student behavior problems, crime and construction at three town hall meetings this month.

Two of the meetings will be hosted by Brig. Gen. Rosanne Bailey, 435th Air Base Wing commander.

The first meeting, hosted by Col. Bob Otto, vice commander of the 435th, takes place at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Hercules Theater on Ramstein Air Base. Military members can expect updates to construction on the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center and the traffic circle near the east gate, according to a base news release.

The second meeting starts at 4:40 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Vogelweh Chapel. The commander will address recent car break-ins on base, according to Otto.

The third meeting will take place at 6 p.m. at the theater on Sembach Air Base. Otto said he expected members to bring up rumors that the base may be closing. While that is being considered no decisions have been made, Otto said.

The meetings are open to all military community members.

Police in England seek information on rape

MILDENHALL, England — The Suffolk County Constabulary is looking for anyone who may have information about a rape that took place Sunday evening in Mildenhall.

According to the police, a 20-year old woman was raped between 10:15 and 10:30 p.m. in an alleyway on Kingsway street.

The woman, who is from Mildenhall, told police she was grabbed from behind while walking along the alley that connects Croft Road with Peterhouse Close. There is no description of the offender.

Police are asking anyone who might have been in the area and seen something during the time of the crime to call Crimestoppers at 0800-555111 or the Mildenhall investigative office at 01284-774100.
