Organizers of a DODDS-Europe youth leadership conference are asking business professionals with expertise in various areas, such as public speaking and interviewing techniques, to volunteer as presenters.

The European chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America is hosting its annual fall conference Oct. 28 at the Village Pavilion at Patrick Henry Village in Heidelberg, Germany. The event lasts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Students “react very, very positive to the conference,” said Robert Lykins, student activities coordinator for Department of Defense Dependents Schools-Europe. “It’s the kids who actually run the thing.”

But a key component of the conference is the presenters.

DODDS figures it needs at least a dozen presenters. Typically, about 150 students attend the fall conference, which is more instructional in nature than the spring gathering.

“We’re always looking for presenters,” Lykins said.

Persons with expertise in various areas are needed to volunteer time and talents to lead presentations in the following categories: business dress for success; teamwork; positive attitude and motivation; publicity and public relations; marketing and advertising directed toward teenagers; public speaking; impromptu speaking; personality inventories and application to the workplace; dealing with stress; leadership skills in management; office decision-making; entrepreneurship; and job interview skills.

And Lykins added, “we could always use folks who can talk about technology and technology’s affect on business.”

In addition, a motivational speaker is needed for the opening session. A 15-minute speech about becoming business leaders of the future would be a good topic. Lunch is provided for presenters.

Anyone interested in being a presenter should contact Bertha Manning by Friday at: Bertha_Manning@eu.odedodea.edu
