KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — A Ramstein airman who died on Sunday has been identified as Staff Sgt. Nathan L. Tinsley, the Air Force said in a statement Wednesday.

Tinsley, 27, was assigned to the 86th Maintenance Squadron at Ramstein Air Base.

He died in Schwedelbach — a village near the base — on Sunday about 2:15 p.m., according to the statement. A cause of death was not provided.

Tinsley was from Eureka, Calif. Planning for a memorial service is underway, but no date has been set, base officials said.

“The 86th Airlift Wing lost a valuable member of its Air Force family,” Brig. Gen. Patrick X. Mordente, the 86th Airlift Wing commander, said in the statement. Tinsley will be missed by his unit “and all who had the opportunity to serve with him,” Mordente said. “Our thoughts and prayers during this time of loss continue to be with his family, friends and co-workers.”
