YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea — South Korean authorities have charged a U.S. civilian physician who practiced at Yongsan Garrison’s 121st Hospital with the sexual abuse of a 2-year-old.
Lance May, 43, remains free. South Korean authorities received information about May from the Army Criminal Investigation Command, said Ahn Song-soo, a prosecutor with the foreign affairs division of the Seoul prosecutor’s office.
Ahn said he could not elaborate further. May’s attorney, Park Seon-ki, said he could not comment on the case but that no court date has been scheduled.
May was a civilian doctor under contract at the 121st Hospital, according to 8th Army officials. His employment was terminated in mid-January. Officials did not release how long May had worked at the hospital.
According to the 8th Army, the command knew of the allegations against May in January — the same month his employment was terminated. Citing privacy rights, 8th Army officials also said the reason for May’s termination can’t be disclosed.
