The Defense Commissary Agency has a new director.

Philip E. Sakowitz was introduced as DeCA’s director by Dr. David Chu, undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness, at a DeCA conference on May 19, in Richmond, Va., the agency announced. His appointment was effective June 8.

Sakowitz succeeds Patrick Nixon, who retired in October. Rick Page, the agency’s chief operating officer, had served as acting director, according to a DeCA news release.

Sakowitz has more than 30 years of federal service, including time as the executive director of the Army’s Installation Management Command, the news release said.

At IMCOM, he managed base facilities, programs, services and infrastructure for 109 installations worldwide, overseeing an $8 billion annual budget.
