Queen Elizabeth is coming to Bury St. Edmunds for a traditional Easter service in the St. Edmundsbury Cathedral on Thursday.

The historic core of the town will be closed down in several areas for security and to accommodate her majesty’s visit, Suffolk Constabulary officials said in a press release. Police from several agencies will be out in force.

The closures include the Angel Hill and Chequer Square parking areas scheduled to begin overnight Tuesday to 6 p.m. Thursday.

There will also be no vehicle access to Angel Hill from its junction with Northgate Street to its junction with Churchgate Street and to Crown Street from its junction with Honey Hills to its junction with Churchgate Street.

Chequer Square and the Abbey Gardens — except for the restrooms — will also be closed. Vehicle access to Abbey Gate Street from its junction with Angel Lane and to Churchgate Street from its junction with Angel Lane will also be restricted.

There will also be no vehicle access to the Great Church Yard for the public, but residents of the Great Churchyard will be permitted to enter by vehicle from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday. Pedestrians will also be prohibited to Athenaeum Lane and along Crown Street from its junction with Tuns Lane to Churchgate Street.
