STUTTGART, Germany — A 4-year-old boy died Friday after an incident on Thanksgiving Day at Edelweiss Lodge and Resort in Garmisch, Germany, according to Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command.

A guest discovered the boy in the hotel’s pool at about 8:45 p.m. on Nov. 26. The guest pulled the boy from the water and began administering CPR. Medical aid was then taken over by Edelweiss employees while a German ambulance responded to the scene, according to the command.

Once the child was stabilized, he was transferred to a hospital in Garmisch, according to a news release.

“We learned yesterday (Tuesday) that the boy passed away on Dec. 4. The management and staff of the Edelweiss are saddened at the loss and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends,” said Victoria Palmer, an FMWR spokeswoman, in a prepared statement.

Neither the child’s name nor the cause of death have been released.

The incident is being investigated by U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command based in Grafenwöhr and German law enforcement authorities. CID officials in Grafenwöhr referred questions about the case to CID headquarters in Fort Belvoir, Va., where officials were not immediately available for comment.
