YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — Kanto Plain military bases remained under a storm watch early Monday as Typhoon Choi-Wan appeared headed out to sea.

As of 8 a.m. Monday, the storm was headed east-northeast at 22 mph, meteorologists at the Joint Typhoon Warning Center in Hawaii said. The storm had winds of less than 90 mph, gusting to 105 mph.

Maximum wave height associated with the storm was 35 feet, meteorologists said.

No damages or injuries associated with Choi-Wan have been reported on the Kanto Plain.

Choi-Wan formed last week over Okinawa. The strongest winds there were recorded at 94 mph last Friday.

As of early Monday, winds across the Kanto Plain had yet to exceed 25 mph, meteorologists said.

The storm was expected to pass within 150 miles of Yokosuka Naval Base by mid-morning Monday before continuing northeasterly out to sea, forecasters said.

Military weather officials were slated to meet mid-day Monday to discuss downgrading the storm watch.
