WASHINGTON — The arrest of “Mrs. Anthrax,” Huda Salih Mahdi Ammash, doesn’t strengthen President Bush’s hand, so to speak.

With her arrest Monday, the president draws the five of hearts.

If Bush were a gambling man, he still would have a pretty good poker hand — full house, eights over queens.

His stack includes no aces (Saddam Hussein and his two sons included) and just one king (Ali Hassan al-Majid, known as “Chemical Ali”), but he’s got three eights and a pair of queens, as well as three fives, three sixes and a smattering of other cards.

With 19 arrests made so far of persons appearing on the deck of playing cards published by U.S. Central Command and distributed to servicemembers operating in Iraq, Bush has a lot of cards to choose from.

It appears he gets to draw again and again.
