KUNSAN AIR BASE, South Korea — An officer admitted to having sex with an enlisted female but pleaded not guilty to raping a second woman and attempting to rape a third, according to Kunsan Air Base court martial proceedings Tuesday.
Capt. David W. Still, a pilot with the 8th Fighter Wing’s 35th Fighter Squadron, pleaded guilty to violating a general order by having sex multiple times with the enlisted female on Jan. 1 and Jan. 2, 2006, at the Dragon Hill Lodge on Yongsan Garrison in Seoul, he said.
“While I was drinking that night, I was fully aware of her rank,” Still told military Judge Lt. Col. Eric Dillow.
The maximum punishment for Still’s violation is two years of confinement, forfeiture of all pay and dismissal from the Air Force. Still also faces a drunk-and-disorderly conduct charge for alleged vandalism at the Dragon Hill Lodge that same night.
The trial adjourned for procedural reasons Tuesday afternoon before testimony could begin on the rape and attempted-rape charges.
According to Article 32 hearing testimony in July, a first lieutenant in Still’s room said she repeatedly told him “no” when he began having sex with her last April, she said.
Also at the hearing, a second lieutenant said that while in Still’s room last year, he removed her clothes and attempted to have sex but she pushed him off of her multiple times.
The second lieutenant said she had a physical relationship for a few months with Still, but based on the understanding that they would not have intercourse.
The trial testimony also was partially delayed Tuesday by a late decision by Still to be tried by judge instead of a jury.
The trial was set to resume Wednesday morning and expected to continue through the end of the week.
