Humanitarian relief supplies left Italy for Haiti on Tuesday in a U.S. Defense and State department operation.
Workers at Camp Darby assembled pallets Monday and a civilian transport plane carried four 10,000-liter water bladders, eight water purification units, 18,000 water containers, 24,000 personal hygiene kits and 200 rolls of plastic sheeting, a base news release said. The U.S. Agency for International Development stores such supplies at facilities on Leghorn Army Depot.
U.S. and Italian personnel with the 3rd Battalion, 405th Army Field Support Brigade have put together similar shipments to other troubled regions recently. At least one more flight to Haiti is planned in the next week, base officials said.
