U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Salvatore F. Cambria took command this week of special-operations troops in the Pacific, according to a news release.

The troops work throughout the region to support U.S. Pacific Command and to train with other countries, including Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and the Philippines.

Cambria succeeds Maj. Gen. David P. Fridovich, who led Okinawa-based Special Operations Command-Pacific for 2½ years.

Cambria, a 31-year Army veteran, was most recently director of operations at U.S. Southern Command in Miami.
