NAVAL STATION ROTA, Spain — Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Four has arrived in Rota for its regularly scheduled European deployment, while more than 200 of the unit’s Seabees will head to Iraq.

The Port Hueneme, Calif.- based battalion moved into Camp Mitchell last week, taking over for the Gulfport, Miss.-based Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 74.

Seabee battalions rotate in and out of Rota every six or seven months.

Battalion Four also will send smaller detachments to various spots around Europe and the Bahamas during the six-month deployment, including Sigonella, Sicily; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; and Souda Bay, Crete, according to a news release.

Some of the projects in Rota include work on a running track and soccer complex in addition to starting a shoreline gap project.

In Iraq, the unit will work on reconstruction and humanitarian aid projects as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom II.

The battalion will be gone from its homeport until February, when Naval Mobile Construction Battalion One takes over.
