A USS George Washington sailor has been charged with murder in Newport News, Va. The Norfolk-based sailor has denied the charge, according to a local television report.

Christopher Cain, 20, was charged with murder and the use of a firearm in commission of a felony and is being held in the Newport News jail, according to WAVY television in Newport News. The report did not give Cain’s rank.

The body of Leon Lamont Gordon, 24, was found Sunday morning after police received a tip about gunshots in the area, WAVY reported.

In an interview with the station, Cain denied involvement in the death.

The USS George Washington is slated to move to Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan, in 2008 to replace the USS Kitty Hawk, the Navy’s oldest carrier.

AAFES announces heater recallSEOUL — AAFES officials announced Monday that they sold two of eight models of Lasko Ceramic Heaters that have been recalled because their cords can overheat and become fire hazards.

Consumers are advised to stop using the products immediately and contact Lasko for a free replacement, according to a Army and Air Force Exchange Service news release.

Lasko has received 28 reports of failed power cords, with six resulting in minor property damage, according to the release. No injuries have been reported.

AAFES sold model numbers 5132 and 5362 between September 2005 and April 2006.
