An American civilian employee of the Naples, Italy, Navy Exchange Service lost a leg after he was hit by a truck late Tuesday morning on the loading dock behind the store, according to the base’s public affairs office.

The employee, who was not named, was taken to the base hospital — where his condition was stabilized — and on to an Italian hospital, according to Petty Officer 1st Class Stephen Woolverton, a public affairs officer.

The accident occurred at 11:52 a.m. and involved a truck operated by one of the store’s suppliers. Base personnel are investigating the incident.
