CAMP LESTER, Okinawa — The Armed Services Blood Bank Center has scheduled two blood drives on Okinawa during the next week.

The drives are open to servicemembers, Department of Defense civilians and family members 17 years old and older.

The first blood drive will be Wednesday at Camp Hansen’s chapel from 8 a.m. to noon. The second drive is scheduled for Kadena Air Base’s 18th Medical Group Clinic on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Donors may confirm a specific drive as it draws near by going to the Web site: www.oki.med.navy.mil and clicking on “Info for Patients and Community,” then “Blood Donor Program,” or call the Armed Services Blood Bank Center at DSN 643-7737.

Are you eligible to donate blood?

You MAY donate blood if you:

¶ Have not donated blood in the past 57 days.

¶ Weigh at least 110 pounds.

¶ Are in good health.

¶ Are at least 17 years old.

You MAY NOT donate blood if you:

¶ Received a tattoo, body piercing or acupuncture treatment in the past 12 months.

¶ Have received a blood transfusion in the past 12 months.

¶ Lived in Western Europe for six months cumulative time from 1980-1996.

¶ Lived in England for three months cumulative time from 1980-1996.

¶ Have heart problems.

¶ Have a history of cancer.

¶ Have traveled to or through Vietnam, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan or Singapore in the past 14 days.

¶ Have ever tested positive for HIV.

¶ Have had intimate contact with anyone at risk for AIDS.

¶ Have had an accidental needle stick within the past 12 months.
