YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea — Four 2nd Infantry Division sergeants are the latest inductees into the Sgt. Audie Murphy Club, a prestigious association honoring enlisted soldiers deemed to have the core principles of “professionalism, loyalty, caring, discipline.”
The club, named for the most decorated war hero in American history, recognizes and fosters young Army leaders, officials said.
At a Camp Casey induction ceremony Friday, the club welcomed Staff Sgt. Jesse Bolanos, Staff Sgt. Jeremiah J. Larson, Staff Sgt. Eunorous Dixon and Sgt. Thomas Hurley.
Bolanos, from Houston, is a section leader and training supervisor for the 2nd Infantry Division “Warrior” Band.
Larson, from Dayton, Ohio, is a section chief with the Service Battery, 1st Battalion, 15th Field Artillery at Camp Casey.
Dixon, from Newport News, Va., is the senior mechanic of Charlie Battery, 6th Battalion, 37th Field Artillery.
Hurley, from Knoxville, Pa., is a Battery Display Specialist in the 1st Battalion, 38th Field Artillery.
Before becoming members of the Murphy Club, each candidate went through a rigorous screening process, concluding with a selection board of senior noncommissioned officers, officials said.
Audie Leon Murphy, the club’s namesake, went from sharecropper’s son to American legend, finding fame after World War II as an actor and songwriter. Murphy fought in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany, earning the Medal of Honor and every other medal for military valor.
