An Army reservist died in Kabul, Afghanistan, from a heart attack, according to The Associated Press.

Sgt. 1st Class Michael P. Shannon, 52, died Jan. 17, the AP reported.

The New York City native was serving with Headquarters, U.S. Army Europe from Heidelberg, Germany, as part of the International Security Assistance Force Joint Command. However, Shannon deployed directly from Canadensis, Pa., where he lived with his family, according to USAREUR officials.

Shannon is survived by his wife, Donna, and children Rhea, 21; Michel’le, 18; and George, 9; and his mother, Lorena Shannon, according to the AP.
