A child’s toy oven sold in AAFES stores was recalled because of burn hazards, according to an AAFES release Friday.

Hasbro Inc., of Pawtucket, R.I., voluntarily recalled its Easy-Bake Oven in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, according to the Army and Air Force Exchange Service news release.

Children can “insert their hands into the oven’s front opening, and get their hands or fingers caught, posing entrapment and burn hazards,” according to the release.

Seventy-seven children suffered burns, 16 of which were reported as second- or third-degree burns, according to the release. One 5-year-old girl required partial finger amputation.

The recall includes all units with the retrofit kit and the toy’s model number is 65805.

It’s a purple and pink plastic electric toy with four burners on top and a front-loading oven. Ovens sold before May 2006 are not included in the recall.

It is not recommended for children under 8 years old.

AAFES sold the ovens between May 2006 and February 2007. The ovens also were sold at Toys “R” Us, Wal-Mart, Target, KB Toys and other stores.

Parents are warned to immediately take the ovens away from children and to call Easy-Bake at 1-800-601-8418 for instructions on how to return the toy for a voucher good for the purchase of another Hasbro product. Visit www.easybake.com for more information.
