OKINAWA CITY — Okinawa police on Thursday released an American civilian employee for Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation after he paid a fine of $1,400, for attacking his estranged wife March 27 in a Chatan parking lot.

Dwayne A. Jones, 32, was found guilty in Naha District Court of misdemeanor assault and ordered to the pay the fine, according to an Okinawa police spokesman.

He had been in police custody since being arrested at his home in Okinawa City’s Ikehara district following the 4:40 a.m. attack on his 32-year-old Okinawan wife.

According to police, Jones encountered his wife on the street and an argument ensued, during which he pushed her against the trunk of a car and attempted to throttle her.

Police arrived at the scene just after the altercation. They said the woman sustained neck and back injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
