OSAN AIR BASE, South Korea — An airman assigned here as a member of an Air Force security police unit was taken into custody Tuesday, accused of unprofessional conduct while serving on the “town patrol,” base officials said in a news release issued Wednesday.

The town patrol is a police detail that makes patrols in the downtown entertainment district just outside the installation, in Songtan, 48 miles south of Korea’s Demilitarized Zone.

The airman is a member of the 51st Security Forces Squadron, part of the 51st Fighter Wing headquartered here.

The release did not name the airman or give details of the incident that led to his being taken into custody, stating “specifics cannot be released at this time” and adding that “as information becomes available for release, it will be provided.”

An inquiry by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations in cooperation with the Korean National Police agency was “in its initial stages,” the release stated.
