AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy — An airman assigned to the 31st Communications Squadron was found guilty of malingering and drunk and disorderly conduct last week in a summary court-martial.

Airman 1st Class Justin Alexander was sentenced to 20 days at the military confinement facility in Mannheim, Germany, and reduced in rank to E-1.

According to the base public affairs office, Alexander falsely told his supervisors that he was receiving weekly treatment for leukemia and used the excuse to repeatedly avoid work on Fridays for about six months in 2003. The truth was discovered during a pre-deployment medical check.

Alexander was found to be drunk and disorderly on March 28 while at a party in the base dormitories.
