KADENA AIR BASE, Okinawa — Airman 1st Class Leonard R. Barnes III, a fuels specialist with the 18th Logistics Readiness Squadron, was found dead Sunday in his dormitory room, base officials reported Tuesday.

The cause of death is under investigation, base spokesman Ed Gulick said in a press release. No more details were available.

A memorial service for Barnes was scheduled for Tuesday at Kadena’s base chapel.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of a member of our Air Force,” Col. Lenny Richoux, 18th Vice Wing commander, said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Airman Barnes as they go through this difficult time.”
