AFN journalists top 12 sections of Ware awards

The Department of the Army recently announced the Keith L. Ware military journalist competition winners for 2009, with American Forces Network in Germany, Italy and Belgium taking home 12 first-place awards, according to an AFN news release.
AFN Bavaria’s Honey Shewbert was named the Civilian Broadcast Journalist of the Year, and Pfc. Lamisha Davis gained the Rising Star award for the outstanding new broadcaster.
Print journalists from Europe earned six top awards, and one garrison earned a community relations award.
Most of the first-place winners now will compete in the Department of Defense Thomas Jefferson Awards Program. Winners of the Thomas Jefferson Awards, which include journalists from each military service, will be announced April 13-17.
