Fuel prices at Army and Air Force Exchange Services in Europe will fall by more than 8 cents a gallon in November, reflecting a similar trend in the States, AAFES officials announced Wednesday.
“In accordance with the gas pricing policy established by the AAFES board of directors, the decrease reflects last month’s drop in U.S. gas prices across the country,” AAFES officials stated in a news release.
The changes will affect fuel prices in Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Other areas with a U.S. military presence are either tied to other price controls or not serviced by AAFES.
Price changes in the affected countries will be fairly consistent among all grades of fuel except for diesel, which goes up slightly by 7 cents per gallon.
The AAFES price fluctuations are tied to averages observed by the Department of Energy.
Nonetheless, gas at AAFES still costs more than the Energy Department averages due to the price of dispensing fuel coupons and other expenditures, according to the exchange.
Exchanges in the Pacific theater announced similar price changes this week.
According to the Associated Press, retail gas prices fell 2 cents over the past two weeks in the United States. Overall, prices have dropped 16 cents since Sept. 12. The U.S. government reported a peak in August due to supply problems. That month is the peak driving season. East Coast blackouts took several refineries out of operation and a West Coast pipeline was shut down to avoid environmental damage.
U.S. prices for regular gasoline now averages $1.54 per gallon. The October average was about $1.58, and is the figure AAFES uses to base its prices.
For November, AAFES prices in Germany will be $1.77 for a gallon of normal unleaded, $1.87 for super unleaded, $1.96 for super plus unleaded and $1.66 for diesel.
In the Netherlands, a gallon of super unleaded will cost $1.87, super plus unleaded will be $1.96 and diesel will sell for $1.66.
In the United Kingdom, super unleaded will sell for $1.81 per gallon, lead replacement petrol will sell for $1.90 and diesel will cost $1.60.
