KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — The 86th Airlift Wing at Ramstein Air Base will be getting a new commander, the Pentagon has announced.

Brig. Gen. Jon T. Thomas has been tapped to replace Brig. Gen. Patrick X. Mordente, the wing’s leader since June 2013.

The leadership change was announced by the Air Force chief of staff and released by the Defense Department Monday.

A wing spokesman at Ramstein said a change-of-command ceremony would likely be held sometime in early June.

Thomas is currently serving as the Joint Staff future joint force development deputy director in Suffolk, Va. He has had two former assignments at Ramstein: From July 2006 to July 2007, he was deputy commander of the 603rd Air and Space Operations Center, and from July 2007 to July 2009, he commanded the 86th Operations Group.
