Through six days of “clearing operations” in the once-posh Mansour district of Baghdad, U.S. and Iraqi forces have arrested some 63 suspected insurgents and seized 27 weapons caches of various sizes, officials said Tuesday.

The operation, called Arrowhead Strike 9, is part of the increased effort to tamp down sectarian violence and insurgent violence.

Among the troops involved are the 1st Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division; 5th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division; 4th Brigade, 10th Iraqi Army Division; and 5th Battalion, 2nd National Police Brigade. Participating U.S. troops include those from the 2nd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division and 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division.

Some of the arrests and weapons seizures came as the result of tips from Iraqis, the officials said. In one case, an Iraqi woman provided information that led to the arrest of five men suspected of staging mortar attacks.
