Bodies beautiful – 48 in all – were on display before a raucous crowd of about 600 at the Keystone Theater on Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, during Sunday’s 5th Pacific Muscle Classic bodybuilding, fitness and figure competition.
The event featured active-duty servicemembers, civilians, dependent spouses and Japanese civilians who spent months training, dieting and lifting weights to prepare for the first of two major bodybuilding competitions on Okinawa this season. They performed to musical numbers ranging from classics to hip hop, one performer even choosing Neil Sedaka’s Calendar Girl.
Shannon Haynes won the men’s overall and middleweight titles and Best Poser award, while Tamara Dickey earned the women’s overall, heavyweight and Best Poser honors. Ivette Kragel won the women’s figure 5-foot-3 and under and the overall figure award.
Other winners by category were Sally Tews, women’s figure 5-3 and over; Hidekazu Taba, men’s masters; Marcus Caudle, men’s bantamweight; Hitoshi Tome, men’s lightweight; Kenneth Walker, men’s light-heavyweight and Michael Ray, men’s heavyweight.
