The 501st Military Police Company has been named the top military police unit in U.S. Army Europe, according to an Army news release.

The Wiesbaden, Germany-based company, which recently completed a 15-month tour in Iraq with the 1st Armored Division, was recognized as this year’s Griffin Award winners.

"The things that you do are absolutely amazing," Maj. Gen. Mark Hertling, 1st Armored Division commander was quoted in the release as saying.

Col. David LeMauk, USAREUR provost marshal and one of the judges in the competition, said all aspects of soldier development were examined to determine the top police unit.

"The 501st clearly stood out ... head and shoulders above other MP units ... This is not only a great honor for you, but also for the division," LeMauk was quoted in the release as saying.
