Love opera? Add an evocative outdoor backdrop to the powerful sound of the music, and even lukewarm fans might be up for the experience. Here’s a selection of what’s on and where this summer:

Austria • Bregenz: Giacomo Puccini’s “Turandot” will be performed against a dragon-shaped wall on the iconic Lake Stage on Lake Constance on selected dates between July 22 and Aug. 21. Ticket prices start at 30 euros. • Moerbisch: The Seefestspiele Moerbisch plays out on a stage on Lake Neusiedl, which is billed as the largest open-air opera stage in the world. Spectators can take in the operetta titled “Victoria and Her Hussar” on dates between July 7 and Aug. 20. Tickets begin at 25 euros. • St. Margarethen: A stone quarry serves as the setting for Gaetano Donizetti’s comic opera “Der Liebestrank” (The Elixir of Love) on dates from July 6 through Aug. 19. Ticket prices start at 33 euros.

Italy • Rome: Terme di Caracalla hosts performances of “Nabucco,” “Madama Butterfly” and “The Barber of Seville” on selected dates from July 9 to Aug. 10. Tickets begin at 25 euros. • Verona: The Verona Opera Festival at the Arena di Verona runs through Aug. 28. The 2016 program includes “Aida,” “Carmen,” “Il Trovatore,” “La Traviata” and “Turandot.” Ticket prices begin at 22 euros. • Taormina: the Teatro Antico is the site of performances of “Cavalleria Rusticana” June 25-26 and Aug. 2 and 22; “Madame Butterfly” July 7 and 9; and “Tosca” Aug. 4 and 24. Tickets start at 33 euros. • Siracusa: “Turandot” will be performed at the ancient Greek theatre on July 14, followed by “Cavalleria Rusticana” July 15 and 16 and “Rigoletto” July 22 and 23. Tickets cost 22 euros and up.

Germany • Braunfels: “Turandot” will be performed at Schloss Braunfels Aug. 5 and 6. Tickets start at 58 euros. • Kirchheimbolanden: Giuseppe Verdi’s “Nabucco” will be performed in the Herrengarten July 29. Tickets cost 44 euros and up. • Loreley: Loreley’s open-air stage is the site of a performance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” on Aug. 7. Tickets begin at 15 euros. • Lindenfels: Burg Lindenfels in the Odenwald is the site of performances of “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Pagliacci” on July 1 and the operetta “Die Fledermaus” (The Bat) July 2. Tickets begin at 37 euros. Italian Night on Aug. 20 offers arias, duets and ensembles from Italian operas; tickets from 26 euros. • Mainz: Opernnacht am Dom presents works from Bellini, Rossini, Bizet, Verdi and others on an outdoor stage in front of the city’s cathedral July 3. Tickets are from 36.50 euros. • Mandelbachtal: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” will be performed at the natural amphitheater Graefinthal, about 10 miles southeast of Saarbruecken, on July 31. Tickets begin at 49.40 euros.
