4:30 p.m. Saturday, Australia Central Standard Time: Marine Rotational Force Darwin on Australia’s northwest coast could be in for some rough weather in the next few days.

According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, a disturbance named 96S Invest was located about 300 miles northeast of Darwin. Heavy precipitation was present in the northwest part of the system. Forecast models depict 96S to move southwest toward Darwin, with intensification likely, JTWC reports. Models show 96S skimming the northwest coast of Australia over the next four to five days.

JTWC rates the chances of 96S developing into a tropical cyclone within the next day or so as “medium.” PST will keep watch on the disturbance.
