Red Grandy ©Stars and StripesSarajevo, Yugoslavia, February, 1984: Bill Johnson of the U.S. soars through the air on the way to a gold medal in the downhill at the Olympic Games. Johnson raised a few eyebrows when he said he'd win the event, in which Swiss skiers were favored, but he came through in a way reminiscent of Joe Namath's Super Bowl prediction. Johnson died Jan. 21, 2016 at age 55, having been in declining health following a brain injury suffered in a 2001 skiing accident.
